Turkish PM hailed as hero

Thousands of people have taken to the streets of Gaza to hail Turkeys prime minister a hero, following his walk out at the Davos economic summit. On Thursday, Recep Tayyip Erdogan furiously stormed out, claiming he had not been given enough time to respond to Israeli President Shimon Peres defence of the Gaza offensive.

Hamas politician Mushir Al-Masri said: It is a victory for the Palestinian people facing the open war waged by the Zionist enemy and this should encourage some of the Arab regimes to correct their political position towards the Palestinian cause and in dealing with the Zionist enemy.

The Turkish prime minister was welcomed as a hero as he arrived back in Istanbul.

In a hot-tempered 25 minute speech, Erdogan became unhappy when Peres repeatedly asked him and other members of the panel what they would do if rockets were fired at them. Peres said later he hoped the squabble would not affect long-term relations between Turkey and Israel.
