Preparations for IDEX-2011 underway

The organising committees of the 2011 edition of the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) has held a meeting to review preparations for the forthcoming event which is being organised by Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company in cooperation with the UAE Armed Forces.

IDEX 2011, the largest defence and security event in the Middle East and North African region, is scheduled at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) between February 20th and 24th under the patronage of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.  Present at the meeting were Managing Director of Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company ADNEC Ali Saeed Al Dhaheri took part in the meeting.

Representatives of the federal and local governmental bodies. The meeting discussed preparations for the opening ceremony of the event and the reception of VIP guests including sheikhs, ministers of defence, chiefs of staff and high ranking officers who will attend the exhibition and the other functions. In remarks at the meeting, Staff Major General Obaid Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Organising Committees, reaffirmed the interest of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in excellent preparations for the launch of the event.

He noted the UAE leadership's directives to involve efforts by all participating public and private organisations to provide excellent services to exhibitors and visitors. 5126 cubic meters of scaffoldings and construction materials, 7500 cubic meters of soil, 143000 kilograms of concrete and 150 trailers were used for the 2011 edition of the event. The two giant main screens installed on the venue measure 29.5 m by 6.1. The two other screens measure 12.2 m by 6.1 m, Al Ketbi added that sub-committees are working on providing facilities to receive visitors and participants He also said that a key highlight of this year's IDEX is the launch of the debut edition of Naval Defence Exhibition 2011, or NAVDEX, which will be held in parallel with IDEX 2011.

Al Ketbi noted that NAVDEX is a dedicated exhibition for the naval defence, coastal and maritime security industries. Co-located with IDEX 2011, by the marina at ADNEC, this exhibition will attract a high profile audience of decision makers from the Middle East, North Africa and Asia Subcontinent regions focused on the procurement of naval and coastal defence products, services and solutions.

NAVDEX is a primary mechanism to reach this important naval audience, raise the company profile and showcase and demonstrate the latest technology and equipment within this region. The first edition of IDEX was held in 1993 on an area of 12000 square meters and attracted 350 exhibitors from 24 countries. IDEX 2011 is being held on an area of 108000 square meters and is set to attract around 950 exhibitors from 52 countries, delegations from 150 countries and over 50000 visitors from all over the world. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
