Press Conference of the 37th Moscow International Film Festival


On 4 June 2015 the Red Hall of Metropol Hotel hosted the press conference devoted to the opening of the 37th Moscow International Film Festival. The following personalities were answering the questions of the journalists at Metropol Hotel: Kirill Razlogov, Program Director of Moscow International Film Festival, Andrey Plakhov, Chairman of the Selection Committee at Moscow International Film Festival, Petr Shepotinnik, PR Director at Moscow International Film Festival, Grigory Libergal, curator of documentaries program at Moscow International Film Festival, Olga Shishko, art-director at MediaForum of Moscow International Film Festival.

The first speaker was PR Director of Moscow International Film Festival, Petr Shepotinnik, who told the journalists about the major program of the festival and announced members of the jury: chairman of the jury at MIFF, French director, Jean-Jacques Annaud, world famous film star Jacqueline Bisset, German script writer Fred Breinersdorfer, Russian film director Alexey Fedorchenko, author of the romantic drama Angels of Revolution, which was awarded with the special prize at the Rome Film Festival, and Hungarian producer Andrew Vajna.

Kirill Razlogov commented on the program of the film festival pointing out that year after year the number of countries participating in the festival remained rather extensive and that this year the program of Moscow International Film Festival would include works from Japan, Iran, Lebanon, Kazakhstan and so on. In main competition Russia will be presented by ARVENTUR directed by Irina Evteeva, ORLEANS by Andrey Proshkin and DEAR HANS by Alexander Mindadze, a joint production of Russia, Germany and the UK; the film is made entirely in German language and tells a story about the German engineer who arrived to USSR. Films from the North and South America will not be participating in the festival, however, audience will have a chance to enjoy a program of Argentinian films presented beyond the scope of the main program.

Chairman of the selection committee of the festival, Andrey Plakhov, noted that a higher share of festival films would be devoted to the youth issues, and his program Euphoria will be presenting films from Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Peru. The program of special shows will feature the world premier of the drama by Alexander Proshkin Senior PASTURES OF HEAVEN starring Chulpan Khamatova and Evgeni Tsyganov. 

The category of auteur cinematography 8 1/2 Films managed by Petr Shepotinnik will feature the film by Jafar Panahi TAXI, winner at Berlin Film Festival. Another world premier that will take place at MIFF is the film HEIRS by Vladimir Khotinenko.

Grigoriy Libergal told the journalists about the documentaries program and underlined that 7 films will be competing in this category and that each one of them is a wonderful work that may become the winner.

Art Director of Media Forum of MIFF, Olga Shishko shared with the journalists that this year program switches from the traditional format: the new works of the famous video artists will be now placed in the space of the cinema theatre. In 2015 Media Forum brings to Moscow several openings by the world's best video artists, among others: Gary Hill, Johanna Billing and art-group Provmyza.

The festival will be opened by the latest film directed by the chairman of the jury, French director and script writer, Jean-Jacques Annaud, - WOLF TOTEM. According to the Program Director, Kirill Razlogov, film that will be closing the festival is yet kept in secret.

Don't forget that in 2015 Moscow International Film Festival will be held from 19 to 26 June, opening and closing ceremonies will be hosted by the theatre Rossiya, press shows of all the films, participants of the film festival will be at the State Theatre of Film Actor, public shows - in the halls of Octyabr Film Theatre.
