Abu Dhabi Awards nominations

The month-long nomination period for the 5th annual Abu Dhabi Awards begins on Sunday 30th August, harnessing the spirit of generosity and giving of the Holy month of Ramadan. Through the Abu Dhabi Awards, residents and citizens can celebrate and honour those in their communities who have selflessly sacrificed their time and resources to enrich the lives of others.

The Awards are a result of the commitment of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to preserve the legacy of our Nation's late father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The annual award process falls under the guidance and auspices of His Highness Sheikh General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

There are five ways to submit a nomination:

1. Visit one of the 124 nomination stations located across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region

2. Visit the website: http://www.abudhabiawards.ae

3. Stop a roving nomination station when you see one - look out for the Abu Dhabi Awards Smart Cars

4. Fax a completed nomination form to 800 33300

5. Post a completed nomination form to PO Box 44442 Abu Dhabi In addition, residents can expect a nomination form to be delivered straight to them with their copy of Al Ittihad and The National on the following days: Al Ittihad: 6, 10, 17, 20 September The National: 6, 15 September According to

Abu Dhabi Awards Organising Committee member, Maryam Amiri, "Our research shows that people are enthusiastic about the Awards and eager to recognise the good work in their communities. In the surveys we have conducted almost 75 per cent of the Emirate's residents are aware of the Awards with 90 per cent of those respondents interested in nominating someone." "As in previous years, the success of the Abu Dhabi Awards relies on the participation of the general public, so we invite everyone to get involved in recognising those amongst us who contribute to the well being of our community," said Ms Amiri.

The Awards are presented on the basis of merit, which means every single nomination is considered, with the Awards open to all members of the public regardless of age, gender or nationality.

"By nominating we have the opportunity to give thanks to those amongst us whose work may otherwise go unnoticed," said Ms Amiri. "And through the act of expressing our appreciation, we can also inspire others to share their goodwill." The nomination period extends from 30th August to the 27th September, followed by an extensive judging process by a panel of senior government officials. Recipients will be announced at a ceremony in December to be held at the Emirates Palace.  - Emirates News Agency, WAM
