The month-long nomination period for the 5th annual Abu Dhabi Awards begins on Sunday 30th August, harnessing the spirit of generosity and giving of the Holy month of Ramadan. Through the Abu Dhabi Awards, residents and citizens can celebrate and honour those in their communities who have selflessly sacrificed their time and resources to enrich the lives of others.

Abu Dhabi Awards Organising Committee member, Maryam Amiri, "Our research shows that people are enthusiastic about the Awards and eager to recognise the good work in their communities. In the surveys we have conducted almost 75 per cent of the Emirate's residents are aware of the Awards with 90 per cent of those respondents interested in nominating someone." "As in previous years, the success of the Abu Dhabi Awards relies on the participation of the general public, so we invite everyone to get involved in recognising those amongst us who contribute to the well being of our community," said Ms Amiri.
The Awards are presented on the basis of merit, which means every single nomination is considered, with the Awards open to all members of the public regardless of age, gender or nationality.
"By nominating we have the opportunity to give thanks to those amongst us whose work may otherwise go unnoticed," said Ms Amiri. "And through the act of expressing our appreciation, we can also inspire others to share their goodwill." The nomination period extends from 30th August to the 27th September, followed by an extensive judging process by a panel of senior government officials. Recipients will be announced at a ceremony in December to be held at the Emirates Palace. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
